Oops I Did My Degree is a planning tool built by a Rutgers student for Rutgers students. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Rutgers University. This page says, in plain words, what Oops I Did My Degree keeps about you, why, who else touches it, and how to delete it.
What we keep
- Your account: your email and your password, stored only as a one-way scrambled hash that no one can read back.
- Your profile: name, campus, school, year, start and graduation terms, and your programs.
- Your record: when you upload a Degree Navigator audit or paste courses, Oops I Did My Degree keeps the courses, grades and requirement status it reads from them. It does not keep the original file, and it does not store your RUID.
- Your plans and choices: planned semesters, weekly schedules, preferences, seat alerts, a GPA you enter and grades you project.
- Advisor conversations, so you can return to them.
- Forum posts, shown to other Oops I Did My Degree users under your first name, last initial and year, or as anonymous if you choose.
- Friends you connect with, and your week only if you turn on sharing.
- Technical records: a login cookie, a plan ID in your browser's storage, and error reports (the page and the error, not your record) so problems get fixed.
What we do not do
Oops I Did My Degree does not sell your data, show ads, or use analytics or tracking tools. It never asks for your NetID password and never registers for classes on your behalf.
Who else handles data
- Render hosts our server and database in the United States.
- Anthropic runs the Advisor. When you ask a question, the question and the parts of your plan needed to answer it are sent to Anthropic's API to write the reply.
- Supabase stores Rutgers program requirements and course lists. None of your personal data is stored there.
- Google Fonts provides the typeface; your browser downloads it from Google, which sees your IP address.
- Rate My Professors and Reddit are looked up by course and professor name to show reviews. Nothing about you is sent.
- Rutgers' public Schedule of Classes supplies courses and sections.
- Email (password resets, confirmations, seat alerts) goes out through an email provider once email is switched on.
How long it is kept
Until you delete your account. Nightly backups are kept for seven days, so a deletion fully clears from backups within a week. Error reports keep only the newest few hundred.
Your choices
You can change your profile and record at any time in Settings. Settings → Delete my account and data removes your account, record, plans and Advisor conversations at once. Forum posts you wrote stay so conversations still make sense, but under "Deleted user" and no longer tied to you; delete individual posts first if you want them gone.
Security
Passwords are hashed, logins are limited after repeated failures, login cookies only travel over HTTPS and cannot be read by page scripts, and the database is backed up nightly. No system is perfectly secure; if Oops I Did My Degree ever learns your data was exposed, it will tell you.
Age
Oops I Did My Degree is for college students and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes and questions
If this policy changes, the date above changes and significant updates are announced in the app. Questions or requests: post in the Forum's General topic for now; a contact email is coming with Oops I Did My Degree's own domain.
